A description is provided of a course, "Pathophysiology 220," designed to provide junior nursing students at the University of Michigan's School of Nursing with theoretical knowledge of a broad range of pathophysiological conditions. Section I discusses the place of the course in the curriculum, the allotment of class time, course requirements, and the target student population. After section II provides a glossary of terms relevant to the course, section III discusses course content in terms of major course goals, long-range objectives, and units of instruction, and section IV lists instructional materials for the course. Section V describes the organization of each of the following units: (1) Alterations in Cell Structure and Function; (2) Alterations in Oxygenation of Tissues; (3) Alterations in Composition and Regulation of Body Fluids; (4) Alterations in Geniturinary Function; (5) Alterations in Endocrine Function, Metabolism and Nutrition; and (6) Alteration in Neuromuscular Function. Descriptive information, major concepts, goals and specific objectives, planned activities, assessment criteria and sample test items are presented for each unit. The final sections cover evaluation, including grading information and procedures for revising the course; estimates of the number of students expected to achieve the objectives; and references.
