It's Time to Include Nutrition Education in the Secondary Physical Education Curriculum
Bertelsen, Susan L.; Thompson, Ben
Strategies: A Journal for Physical and Sport Educators, v27 n1 p3-8 2014
Although the primary focus of physical educators is to increase students' physical activity levels and their knowledge about the importance of movement, they also have the opportunity to affect students' overall wellness by teaching nutrition and how healthy eating contributes to overall health and weight management. Nutrition concepts and dietary behavior-change strategies can be included in the physical education curriculum. This approach would integrate the two primary concepts that contribute to maintaining a healthy weight. This article provides a curriculum outline that incorporates nutrition education without forsaking physical activity in PE class.
