Information about the computerized Oregon Career Information System (CIS) and suggested strategies for implementing the system at the college and university level is provided in this handbook for higher education personnel (teacher educators, counselors, placement officers, and subject matter specialists). Topics discussed in the handbook include the following: (1) description and background of CIS; (2) applications of CIS university wide in the areas of teacher education, exploratory studies program, educational opportunities program, counseling and placement centers, subject matter areas, and others; (3) overview of the system and the eight system components; (4) staff development needs in the areas of location of the system, standards for use, service agreements, user's handbook, publicity to users, student interface and the computer terminal, and training assistants; (5) department, school, and college/university wide coordination with discussion of the role of the campus coordinator and cadre training. The final section, comprising the majority of the handbook, contains "recipes" of instructional materials, activities or guides to use in implementing CIS, outlined in terms of title, objective, time, materials and facilities needed, and methodology. Appendixes contain blank recipe sheets, standards for use, localized information, and numerical list of occupations. (TA)
