Over the years, there has been an ongoing controversy about affective education. Some see it as an important element of good teaching, and some see it as fluff, diminishing academics, and playing into the "feel good" movement. While criticisms may be appropriate in some situations, affective education can play a fundamental role in other scenarios. Perhaps educators need to look more carefully at ways that affective education works with different populations--especially with gifted, culturally diverse learners. There are many pluses and minuses regarding affective education. Recommendations cannot be "cookie cutter" designs but must be adjusted to the environment and the population of students. The author suggests that affective education for the gifted involve Communication (verbal and non-verbal), Emotional IQ, Personal IQ, and Creative Behavior.
