Marketing the "Total Newspaper": A New Philosophy for Newspaper Management.
Hirt, Paul S.
The "total newspaper" concept is a new philosophy of newspaper management that emphasizes the interrelations within a newspaper's organizational structure and the interactions between the newspaper, its mission, and its market. During a time when more practitioners and educators are emphasizing specialization, the aim of this new approach to journalism education is to provide the beginning student with better understanding and greater awareness of newspaper management's overall picture and general framework. (Suggestions for incorporating the "total newspaper" concept into the journalism curriculum and an outline for a short, background course in the "total newspaper" are included in this paper.) (RL)
