In Search of Inspiration
Powers, Keith
Teaching Music, v20 n5 p38-43 Feb 2013
Keeping one's self inspired in the music classroom is all about connections. Sometimes educators need to look at what they're doing from a different perspective. Luckily, there's no shortage of ways to revitalize one's classroom approach, and to help the author explores a few, he made use of some connections of his own, turning to five educators from vastly different backgrounds: Kara Greenup Post, chorus director at J.C. Booth Middle School in Peachtree City, Georgia; Christine Nowmos, general and vocal music teacher at Mary S. Shoemaker Elementary School in Woodstown, New Jersey; Janet Revell Barrett, associate professor at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University; Scott K. Iseminger, a special educator/music teacher at Krejci Academy in Naperville, Illinois, currently on leave to pursue a master's degree; and Peter Loel Boonshaft, professor of music at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York. Their thoughts gave considerable insight into methods that any music educator can use to find inspiration.
