Are Persons Reporting "Near-Death Experiences" Really Near Death? A Study of Medical Records.
Stevenson, Ian; And Others
Omega: Journal of Death and Dying, v20 n1 p45-54 1989-90
Examination of medical records from 40 patients who reported unusual experiences during an illness or injury revealed that only 18 patients were judged to have had serious, life-threatening conditions, while 33 believed they had been dead or near death. Findings suggest that an important precipitator of so-called near-death experience is belief that one is dying. (Author/NB)
