The textual tradition of Navajo language literacy is illustrated with the story of the production of the first Navajo language readers by Ann Nolan Clark, an effort based in Navajo classrooms and communities in the 1930s. Origins of the project, influence of linguists on its evolution, classroom implications of having the readers, and publications since that time are noted. (MSE)
