Selective Exposure to and Acquisition of Information from Educational Television Programs as a Function of Appeal and Tempo of Background Music.
Wakshlag, Jacob J.; And Others
Journal of Educational Psychology, v74 n5 p666-77 Oct 1982
The effect of educational television background music on selective exposure and information acquisition was studied. Background music of slow tempo, regardless of its appeal, had negligible effects on attention and information acquisition. Rhythmic, fast-tempo background music, especially when appealing, significantly reduced visual attention to the educational program. (Author/PN)
