Repeated False Allegations of Sexual Abuse Presenting to Sheriffs: When Is It Munchausen by Proxy?
Schreier, Herbert A.
Child Abuse & Neglect: The International Journal, v20 n10 p985-91 Oct 1996
In cases of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, the perpetrator (generally the mother) simulates or fabricates child abuse in order to maintain an intense relationship with hospital personnel, police personnel, child protection workers, lawyers, or school personnel. A case involving law enforcement agents as a primary "target" illustrates this, and clues are offered for diagnosing Munchausen by proxy. (CR)
