Cases for the Net Generation: An Empirical Examination of Students' Attitude toward Multimedia Case Studies
Sheppard, Michael; Vibert, Conor
Journal of Education for Business, v91 n2 p101-107 2016
Case studies have been an important tool in business, legal, and medical education for generations of students. Traditional text-based cases tend to be self-contained and structured in such a way as to teach a particular concept. The multimedia cases introduced in this study feature unscripted web-hosted video interviews with business owners and executives discussing real-world problems. The results of a questionnaire administered to undergraduate business students confirm prior findings that students prefer multimedia over text and that the quality of the content, rather than skills developed or the quality of the technology platform, explains the students' preference for multimedia cases.
