Resources for the Family Day Care Provider.
Brown, Jeanne, Ed.; And Others
The 34 brief articles in this sourcebook for family day care providers are presented mainly in two large sections: (1) management of family day care business, and (2) interaction with children. Many of these articles pose and provide answers to questions that are likely to occur to child caregivers, such as "Does the IRS really expect me to keep all these receipts?""What can I expect an infant to be like?" and "Why are art experiences important?" The first large section focuses on three subtopics: business, health and safety, and food. Subsections of the second large category discuss characteristics of and appropriate responses to infants and toddlers; program planning in the areas of art, science, and number skills; and ways of responding skillfully to situations involving issues of right and wrong, discipline, and children's interest in sex. The brief introductory section of the sourcebook discusses problematic aspects of conducting a business in a family setting and the parent/provider relationship. Summary remarks detail the developmental characteristics of children from 2 to 12 years of age in terms of appearance, abilities and social relationships, and suggest age-appropriate developmental activities.
