Eye Openers: Handbook of International Teaching Activities. Some Borrowed...Some New.
Bluegrass International Program, Lexington, KY.
This collection of global activities and teaching strategies, suggested and used by teachers, helps to foster international education in the classroom. There are 32 separate proposals for learning activities, covering a variety of format styles, educational levels, and classroom procedures. Some examples include: (1) "Global ABC's" is a poem developed around the theme of country names beginning with letters from A to Z. (2) A "tour" through Italy is for kindergarten students, with "stops" at major Italian cities, combined with classroom activities and learning games. (3) "Pata-Pata" is a modern African dance for students to perform in the classroom. (4) "Looking at Our Weltanschauung" is designed to show students that cultural perceptions and social mores can be quite different as one travels around the world. (5) "A Yen for Problem Solving" demonstrates exchange rates and cultural values to grades 6-8 through the use of a Japanese McDonalds' menu, real estate listings, and bicycle ads. (PPB)
