This curriculum is designed to help schools implement programs to prevent violence among students in grades 6-12. It is a six-session, school based curriculum intended for adolescents who are living in communities experiencing high rates of violence. It is facilitated by trained Teens on Target (TNT) members/peer educators, young people who are supervised by one or more adults trained in violence prevention. The goal of TNT is to train urban youth who are at risk of being victims or perpetrators of violent crimes, injuries, and deaths to become health advocates for violence prevention. This curriculum is founded on the principle that individuals most impacted by violence must be involved in developing the solutions to the problem. TNT members implement the curriculum in their communities and in the middle schools they attended as children; they combine public health data and their personal experiences in attempts to reach their peers. The program provides peer education on violence prevention; educates professionals on the impact of violence and strategies for change; informs the media on solutions, impact, and causes of violence; provokes policymakers to take action to prevent violence; and provides constructive role models for youth. The six sessions include: youth preventing violence; preventing gun violence; preventing gang violence; preventing family and dating violence; and the connection between alcohol, drugs, and violence.
