This monograph reports on a study that examined the adaptation and adjustment of Cuban migrants in West New York, New Jersey. Data were collected through interviews with the heads of 300 Cuban families. A review of relevant literature and an overview of the research design and methodology are presented in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 provides descriptive information on the ethnic and community characteristics of West New York. The occupational histories of Cuban migrants are presented in Chapter 3. Chapter 4 focuses on the assimilation and adjustment of the migrants. Analyses are made of the relationship between assimilation and social characteristics, job history, and integration into the community; adjustment as reflected in job satisfaction and nervous/emotional problems; and mental health attitudes and behaviors. Chapter 5 summarizes the study findings and presents recommendations for future research and policy formation. (Author/MK)
