How to Host a School Visit
Eboch, Chris
Library Media Connection, v25 n2 p42-45 Oct 2006
Bringing a "real live" author into the school can be a great fun for both kids and staff. However, it can also be a disaster. In this article, the author offers ideas on how to host a school visit. Library media specialists can help ensure a successful visit by preparing in advance: define the goals, communicate the expectations, provide publicity, prep the students, and keep the event running smoothly. Moreover, someone should escort the author throughout the day. Ideally, this should be an adult who can help the author move quickly through crowded hallways and anticipate needs such as bathroom breaks. Also provided is a list of issues to resolve before the school visit such as the number and length of talks and how many students each will address, and equipment the author may require such as a slide projector, microphone, or whiteboard.
