Parental Socio-Economic Status as Correlate of Child Labour in Ile-Ife, Nigeria

This study investigated the relationship between parental socio-economic status and child labour practices in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. The study employed survey method to gather data from 200 parents which constituted the study population. Pearson Product Moment Correlation and t-test statistics were used for the data analyses. The outcome of the study showed that a significant relationship exists between parental socio-economic status and child labour (parents of low income status showed significant high tendencies toward child labour practices than their high income counterparts). The study has implications for policy makers both in the educational and the economic sectors. (Contains 4 tables.)
