Educating the public about safety issues related to severe weather is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) mission. This article deals with a poster entitled, "Severe Weather," that has been created by NOAA to help educate the public about hazardous weather conditions. The four types of severe weather highlighted in this poster are hurricanes, flash floods, lightning, and tornadoes. This poster also addresses and reinforces key scientific elements concerning physical, Earth, and space science, and examines how the ability to conduct meaningful scientific advances in meteorology has been enhanced and improved through technological improvements. In this article, the author discusses several scientific agencies and divisions that make up the NOAA, as well as the role played by these agencies.
