The Differential Effects of Abuse Characteristics and Attachment in the Prediction of Long-Term Effects of Sexual Abuse.
Alexander, Pamela C.
Journal of Interpersonal Violence, v8 n3 p346-62 Sep 1993
Female incest survivors (n=112) completed several inventories and checklists to measure sexual abuse severity and adult attachment. Analyses indicated that sexual abuse characteristics predicted depression, intrusive thoughts, and memory avoidance. Adult attachment, particularly a lack of secure attachment, predicted memory avoidance, and also avoidant, dependent, self-defeating, and borderline personality disorders. (JPS)
