Depressive Disorder in Highly Gifted Adolescents.
Jackson, P. Susan; Peterson, Jean
Journal of Secondary Gifted Education, v14 n3 p175-86 Spr 2003

Factors contributing to this masking phenomenon include shame for being incapacitated and unable to resolve their dilemma; depression's signature cognitive confusion, which disengaged their coping mechanism; and fear of harming others.
