In her paper, Louise Pascale encouraged a redefinition of the word "singer" and suggested ways to make it apply to a broader spectrum of people. The problem with the current definition, she believes, is that it is outdated and needs to be changed in order to better embrace the ideals of current society. Maya Hoover, responds by saying that in order to fully understand the problem and incorporate Pascale's suggestions, it is helpful to look at the issue as a symptom of a larger philosophical problem and encourages examination of Pascale's proposed aesthetics from a non-philosophical perspective. Hoover agrees that redefining singing is an issue that warrants serious attention, and sees Pascale's recommendations as an excellent start that may help society learn from the inclusive standards set by teachers and musicians.
