Identifies certain principles of mathematics-like thought participated in by the carvers of the petroglyphs: (1) iteration; (2) recursion; (3) similitude; (4) tiling; and (5) symmetry. Provides illustrations and verbal descriptions of each process and concludes with four suggested classroom activities to help students appreciate the talents of the petroglyph creators. (JHZ)
