Dinosaur Day!
Nakamura, Sandra; Baptiste, H. Prentice
Science and Children, v43 n4 p38-41 Jan 2006
In this article, the authors describe how they capitalized on their first-grade students' love of dinosaurs by hosting a fun-filled Dinosaur Day in their classroom. On Dinosaur Day, students rotated through four dinosaur-related learning stations that integrated science content with art, language arts, math, and history in a fun and time-efficient manner. These four stations are: (1) Making Fossils; (2) Make a Time Line; (3) What Color Were the Dinosaurs?; and (4) Dinosaur Teeth. The event drew parents, teachers, and students together--it was a thrill to see students become a community of learners as they helped each other discuss, write, draw, measure, mix, and record at each learning station. This article describes how the authors organized this big event. (Contains 2 figures and 6 resources.)
