Organizational Correlates of Management Training Interests.
Tills, Marvin
A study was made of a sample of Wisconsin manufacturing firms and a subsample of firms in different size categories to determine organizational correlates of management training interests. Correlations were sought between characteristics of firms (ownership, relationship to parent company, size of employment, market orientation, growth trends, unionization or lack thereof) and the variables of training sources, training needs, preferred schedules, and distance limitations. On the job training was often used by the largest number of firms, followed by informal inplant training, university programs, vocational school classes, and trade association programs. Training needs were in areas of general management, personnel, production, marketing, and finance. Firms favorable to training were likely to be large, unionized, broadly held, and with recent growth; branches and subsidiary plants used training facilities more than did main plants. (ly)
