Freedom under Law. Revised edition.
Denver Public Schools, CO.
This pamphlet identifies and explains Colorado laws as they apply to juveniles and adults. The handbook was specifically developed to help teenagers know how the laws protect them and how they are expected to comply with them. Two short sections discuss the necessity of having laws and give definitions of 12 legal terms such as felony and petty offense. The majority of the handbook contains explanations of the law under 30 topics. The topics include alcohol use and abuse, arrest, bicycles, consumer rights, crimes against property, crimes against persons, curfew, death penalty, driver's licenses and vehicles, hitchhiking, juvenile court, marriage, medical services, narcotics and drug abuse, and smoking of tobacco. Several tables outline the classification of certain types of crimes such as arson and possession of marijuana, and indicate specific penalities. A concluding section offers names, addresses, and phone numbers of 20 service agencies in Denver which provide help for people with legal, emotional, medical, drug, or drinking problems. (AV)
