Community-Based Career Guidance Practices. Vol. II--Secondary Level.

This collection of eighty-six secondary level career guidance practices contains the following nine types of activities: novel practices such as games and role enactments, volunteering, field trips, special career emphases, intern/extern practices, work experience and exploration practices, exchanges, mobile practices, and educator in-services. A standard format (including a description of the activity, its objectives, a planning check list, a list of needed resources, procedures for gaining support of the practice, possible barriers to its implementation, activity management considerations, evaluation procedures, the name and address of the source of the activity, suggestions for effective implementation, and suggestions for additional activities) is followed for each practice. Student/parent pop courses, a rent-a-kid program, a temporary odd job employment service, and a community job development and placement program for graduating students are among the novel career guidance activities described. A totel of fourteen activities using community volunteers (including senior citizens) in a career guidance capacity are provided, and fourteen career day/week/month activities are presented. Job shadowing, exploratory community service activities, and a parent-student swap day are among the work experience practices discussed.
