This Systems and Procedures Exchange Center (SPEC) kit is based on information from 22 of the 71 Association of Research Libraries (ARL) member libraries that responded to a 1986 survey of 91 ARL academic libraries concerning the analysis of professional and non-professional positions, and on information collected from 17 additional libraries that were contacted by letter and telephone during 1986. The 22 libraries selected for analysis reported that positions had been looked at within the past three to four years. A concise summary considers changing staff roles, the use of job analysis, job analysis projects, and future considerations. In addition, a tabulation of survey results is presented, and the following original documents are included: (1) examples of information gathering materials from Boston University, Brigham Young University, and the University of Michigan; (2) program descriptions from Brown University, Columbia University, the University of Kentucky, Michigan State University, and the University of Michigan; and (3) position classifications from the University of British Columbia, Brown University, Columbia University, and the University of Pennsylvania. A seven-item bibliography and SPEC order and evaluation forms are also provided. (KM)
