The Interest Center at Munger Junior High in Wichita, Kansas is an alternative program to which any 12- to 16-year-old student in the district may apply. Assignments are made as opening occur, and a balance of age, sex, race, and special problems is maintained. The center is concerned with recognizing individual differences among students, while simultaneously helping them learn to function in society and within their cultural heritage. Management activities are shared among all members of faculty and staff. Student learning is personalized through a variety of experiences and techniques which are also designed to encourage a positive self-image. Members of the center attempt to support, counsel and act as a resource center to students, parents, community, and each other. (Author/BP)
