The purpose of this study was to evaluate the Technology Acceptance Model's (TAM) relevance of the intention of nurses to use electronic medical records in acute health care settings. The basic technology acceptance research of Davis (1989) was applied to the specific technology tool of electronic medical records (EMR) in a specific setting (hospitals). The modified Davis survey tool was electronically distributed to nurses in 13 hospitals to assess Davis' TAM model in acute care settings. Perceived ease-of-use and perceived usefulness were the variables used to predict intention of nurses to use electronic medical records in acute health care settings. The original work of Davis (1989) focused on user acceptance of electronic mail. This research applied the Technology Acceptance Model specifically to the use of electronic medical records in acute health care settings.
