Expansion of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Faculty College: Evaluation Report.
Mahler, William A.
A project, sponsored by the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education, was conducted at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh to expand the Faculty College program, which is an on-going series of faculty development workshops and seminars. The project was designed to: implement and evaluate a series of in-depth special focus sessions that feature national leaders who would treat issues in one of the developing areas of the institution; provide support for faculty from external institutions to participate in the Faculty College program; develop alternative models for implementing comprehensive institutional change strategies that can be sustained without external resources; and assess the effectiveness of the interinstitutional multiplier strategy implemented through the project. The four special focus sessions focused on: university/high school cooperative programs, educational needs in nonschool settings, adult education, and improving undergraduate teaching. The project evaluation plan is outlined and the following conclusions are presented: the four sessions were positively evaluated by participants; 51 participating institutions derived some benefit from project experiences; and four models for implementing comprehensive institutional change strategies were developed. Responses regarding the multiplier strategy implemented through the project were mixed. Data from the evaluation studies and evaluation instruments are included. (SW)
