Developing Students' Ideas about Magnets
Cheng, Meng-Fei
Teaching Science, v55 n4 p55-57 Dec 2009
This paper illustrates a series of activities designed to encourage fourth to sixth-grade students to develop their conceptions of magnets. Through scaffolding activities and facilitation from the teacher, students will be able to generate, evaluate, and refine their explanations for how magnets work. Students can gradually develop sophisticated explanations to account for their observations, and increase their understanding of the phenomenon of magnetism. (Contains 5 figures.)
