Preventing Early Learning Failure.
Sornson, Bob, Ed.
Noting that thousands of young children with the capacity to experience school success do not because they are unprepared for school learning activities, have experienced physical or emotional setbacks that cause them to be at risk for early learning failure, have never experienced limits on their behavior, or have mild sensory or motor deficits, this book examines issues related to early learning failure. The book discusses contributions to early learning failure, describes practices that can help children find success in school, and examines programs of prevention and intervention. Stories describing the implementation of various prevention practices are included. The chapters are: (1) "Manufacturing Early Learning Failure" (Bob Sornson); (2) "Teaching Children To Read: What Really Matters" (Richard L. Allington); (3) "Building Early Numeracy Skills" (Joyce McLeod); (4) "Who Is Really Learning Disabled?" (Gary L. Hessler); (5) "Enhancing the Listening Environment for Early Learning Success" (Carol Flexer); (6) "Instructional Support Teams: It's A Group Thing" (James A. Tucker); (7) "The Instructional Support Team Concept in Action" (Kenneth F. Pawlowski); (8) "Vision and Learning" (Nancy Sornson); (9) "Putting the Learning Needs of Children First" (Edward E.
