Argues that the lack of environmental education (EE) at both the tertiary level and in preservice teacher education in most Latin American countries is considered a main weakness for professional development. A review of literature in national EE strategies provides some insights into the constraints and opportunities relating to the introduction of EE into formal education. Contains 30 references.
