Family Literacy Packs: Preservice Teachers' Experiences with Family-School Connections
Wilson, D. Reece
Reading Improvement, v50 n1 p30-33 Spr 2013
This article describes the development of a family literacy project that involves university preservice teachers creating literacy backpacks. The family literacy project was developed with two objectives: (1) to encourage parent/child participation in literacy activities; and (2) to give preservice teachers the opportunity to develop literacy activities for families to engage in together. The backpacks contain children's books, directions for literacy activities, and materials to complete such activities. Overall, parent and preservice educators' reaction to the literacy backpack project was positive.
