"Government Finances, Volume 4", contains six parts that encompass the entire range of state and local government financial activity in fiscal year 2001-02. They are: (1)Finances of Public School Systems; (2) Finances of Special Districts; (3) Finances of County Governments; (4) Finances of Municipal and Township Governments; (5) Compendium of Government Finances; and (6) Employee Retirement Systems of State and Local Governments. This report, provides statistics on the revenue, expenditure, debt, and financial assets of county governments. It aggregates this data for the nation, for state areas, and for all individual county governments. The introductory text describes the scope of the Census Bureau?s county government finance data collection activities, and also explains the intricacies of the types of data, notes, the limitations of the data, as well as their relationship to data in other reports. The tabular section contains 13 tables. Table 1 displays national totals of county government finances for 2002 and other census years. Statewide aggregates appear in Tables 2 through 11. Table 2 contains the state summaries. Revenue data appears in Tables 3 and 4, and expenditure information in Tables 5 through 8. Table 9 presents data on indebtedness, Table 10 on cash and security holdings, and Table 11 on utilities and liquor stores. In Table 12 detailed state summaries are divided into population size groups of county governments. Table 13 displays data for each of the 3,034 individual county governments in the nation.
