Creepy Crawlies and the Scientific Method: Over 100 Hands-On Science Experiments for Children.
Kneidel, Sally Stenhouse
This book contains 114 experiments, mostly behavioral, with animals that are commonly found in nature. Each experiment is a five-step procedure: question, hypothesis, methods, result, and conclusion. Chapter 1 is devoted entirely to explaining these five steps, which together constitute the scientific method. The experiments are in the last part of every chapter while the beginning of each chapter describes the animals (mostly insects), how to find them, how to maintain them, and things you can do to encourage observation. Chapters relate to the following organisms: pill bugs, earthworms, crickets, millipedes, fungus, tadpoles, pond organisms, ant lions, spiders, praying mantises, fruitflies, aphids, ladybug beetles, and mealworms.
