This report presents the results of a survey conducted by the Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine wages and related benefits in (1) the banking industry and (2) for employees in home offices and regional head offices of life insurance carriers. Part 1 discusses banking industry characteristics and presents data for tellers and selected clerical and data processing jobs studied in twenty-eight metropolitan areas and New York City. Wage and benefit information is presented for part-time bank workers. A summary of the overall survey results for the banking industry is also included. Part 2 describes the nature of the life insurance industry and contains wage and benefit information for the nation, regions, thirteen metropolitan areas, and New York City. This part also contains a summary of the results. Eleven insurance classifications are presented along with selected clerical and data processing jobs. Appendixes contain a description of salary plans for life insurance agents, the scope and method of the two survey parts, and occupational descriptions. (CSS)
