Building Better Career Futures: Facilitator Guide.
Bezanson, Lynne; Hopkins, Sareena
This guide, designed to be used by facilitators of the Building Better Career Futures, a comprehensive career development program for young adults, is to be used in conjunction with the Backgrounder and the Portfolio Builder. It includes an introduction to the full program and lesson plans for all topics. Each lesson plan begins with a cover sheet outlining the topic content; a list of any materials that will be needed; the objectives of the session; and relevant pages for reference in the Backgrounder. The lessons themselves include a detailed outline for delivery, key learning points, and samples of suggested flipcharts/handouts. The lessons are divided into the four parts of the program. The first section is "Understanding Career Development," which discusses current foundations in career development that support action and success. The second section, "Opportunities in the Labour Market," includes strategies related to making sense of the labor market, opportunity awareness, assessing labor market information, and employability skills. "Opportunities for Me" includes activities concerning personal metaphors, values, dependable strengths, mapping, and a career-life project. The final section, "Taking Charge," includes activities about moving to decision-making and career action, whole-brained decision making, and goal tests and contingencies. (Includes a list of 20 resources.) (MKA)
