Noting that children need help in learning to use wisely the computer and the Internet, this booklet, in English and Spanish versions, uses the characters from the public television program "Arthur" to suggest activities for parents to use with their children. The booklet begins with a read-aloud story about using computer games and the Internet at home and school and includes questions for discussion. Basic information is also presented about the Internet, the World Wide Web, electronic mail, and bookmarking web sites. The booklet describes activities available on the "Arthur" web site and contains comments from parents and children about the site. An activity to practice using a search engine is included. The booklet concludes with tips for using the Internet, including parents using the web with their children, talking about advertisements on the web, discussing accuracy of information available on the web, placing the home computer in a family "public" area, limiting screen time, bookmarking sites appropriate for children, and teaching children basic safety rules.
