This article discusses how, in the new world of the information age, libraries must seek to bring relevant services to their technically savvy patrons. This includes designing a library that can serve not only the geographic community, but also the virtual online community. Software used to create online communities is known as social software and includes blogs, wikis, and chat. The author describes several varieties of social software available to libraries and suggests resources to discover innovative uses of this technology.
