The Librarian Who Loves "LibraryThing"
Sibley, Roberta
School Library Media Activities Monthly, v25 n8 p20-21 Apr 2008
"LibraryThing" is a great way for library media specialists to keep track of the books they personally read. "LibraryThing" allows them to create a personal library, give their books tags, choose book covers, give star ratings, generate citations, and review books. Library media specialists can also connect to other readers and see their reviews. Entries can be seen by anyone or made private if one does not want to share. The tags, which can be sorted alphabetically, are useful for remembering book topics and themes. When a tag is clicked, all of the books in the library tagged with that subject are displayed. When a student asks for a book about "love," for example, a library media specialist can sort through his tags to find titles, cover art, and reviews to trigger his memory of which books to recommend. In this article, the author describes the positive outcomes of her experiment with "LibraryThing" at her highschool. (Contains 2 figures.)
