Playing in the Margins: Process Drama as a Prereading Strategy with LGBT YA Literature
Zanitsch, Jason
English Journal, v98 n4 p85-91 Mar 2009
In an effort to better understand the potential of process drama to overcome the reluctance of students to engage with lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) characters, the author created a workshop that directly addresses the outcast mentality and the marginalization of LGBT youth in schools. Here, the author investigates the underlying theory of process drama, outlines the workshop he devised, and discusses the reactions and responses of the participants in the workshop.
