Citation analysis of dissertations was used to explore the interdisciplinary nature of education graduate students' research. A sample of curriculum and instruction dissertations, and their bibliographies we studied using citation analysis methods and analysis of "Digital Dissertation" records. Research methodologies were also explored. Rather than crossing broad disciplinary boundaries, interdisciplinary work for these students occurred at the level of specific fields of study within curriculum and instruction, and at times education subdisciplines. Questions are raised about the nature of interdisciplinarity in graduate student work. As faculty research and academic structures continues to evolve, graduate student work also may change.
