Structures around the World: A Standards-Based Unit/Lesson Template
Wiggins, Enrique
Technology Teacher, v66 n3 p28-30 Nov 2006
"Structures Around the World" is an eighth-grade activity that places special emphasis on creativity and the aspects of design. This lesson interrelates across a variety of curriculums. Due to its diversity, this activity brings validity to technology education and how ideas are conceptualized. In this activity, students explore various structures around the world. They design and reconstruct a model of a structure from a country of their choice (other than the United States). Students are assessed on the accuracy of their design as compared to a computer-generated picture, the model of their design, effective usage of tools and equipment, and the ability to follow safety procedures. Students are also graded on their research, written papers, and oral presentations.
