Rocking & Rolling: Supporting Infants, Toddlers, and Their Families. One Language, Two Languages, Three Languages . . . More?
Prieto, H. Victoria
Young Children, v64 n1 p52-53 Jan 2009
The belief that a child has to abandon his home language to learn English implies that the young brain has limited learning capacity. Early childhood teachers need to help families understand that children can learn two languages at the same time. What matters is that the infant/toddler is in an effective language-learning environment, whether it is a supportive care setting or at home. The authors offer tips on making the child care setting such an environment. (Contains 4 resources.)
