How Adults Learn Forms the Foundation of the Learning Designs Standard
Drago-Severson, Eleanor
Journal of Staff Development, v32 n5 p10-12 Oct 2011
Learning Forward's new Learning Designs standard is an important reminder that shaping professional learning as opportunities for adults to learn and grow is essential and that one's understanding of how adults learn is an essential component of this pressing goal. This article discusses the three strands of the Learning Designs standard: (1) apply learning theories, research, and models; (2) select learning designs; and (3) promote active engagement. They point toward the promise of crafting professional learning as learning labs in which educators learn about content, learn by engaging with each other, and learn from the process of learning itself.
