Leading through Stories
Grove, Kathleen F.
Educational Leadership, v72 n7 p70-73 Apr 2015
Drawing on her experiences as a school leader addressing groups of (sometimes skeptical) teachers, colleagues, and parents, Grove describes how she used storytelling to engage, inspire, and convince listeners. She gives examples of five things telling well-chosen anecdotes will help you do when communicating with educators and families: (1) establish credibility; (2) put a face on the research; (3) challenge teachers' counterproductive beliefs; (4) tie content to listeners' own stories; and (5) humanize your authority.
