Developing Emotionally Intelligent Principals
Cox, Edward P.
ERS Spectrum, v27 n4 p1-7 Fall 2009
Transformational change in today's schools will require leaders with strong intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. A recent assessment program in South Carolina focused attention on the identification of the emotional intelligence of aspiring and newly appointed principals. A battery of personality and leadership assessments was used to develop individual and group profiles. The profile that emerges is that of a careful, cautious, and incremental school leader. Substantial differences between male and female principals during times of conflict were among the significant findings. (Contains 4 tables.)
