Teaching and Learning about the U.S. President: Activities for an Election Year
Cruz, Barbara C.; O'Brien, Jason L.
Social Studies and the Young Learner, v25 n1 p22-26 Sep-Oct 2012
The activities the authors propose in this article offer teachers a research-based, interactive, and relevant framework of study that can effectively introduce students to the presidential election process as well as encourage students to begin thinking about what types of leaders they will vote for in the future. The exercises embody the best instructional practices of differentiated instruction, cooperative learning, and authentic assessment. Further, the structure of the activities gives students a voice in the classroom and in their own learning. Taken as a whole, they can serve as an important component of a curriculum designed to prepare the citizens of tomorrow. (Contains 1 figure, 10 notes, and 7 online resources.)
