Compensation and Benefits Survey Report, 1999.
National Association of Coll. and Univ. Attorneys, Washington, DC.
The National Association of College and University Attorneys surveyed its members for information about compensation and benefits they receive from their employers. The survey was conducted between December 1998 and February 1999 and elicited responses from 285 principal attorneys who were employed full-time by a university or a state government, or who worked as outside counsel to a university. Salaries of principal attorneys and other legal staff are reported in tables broken out by years of legal experience, fund expenditures, and student enrollment. Characteristics of the attorneys, such as age, legal experience, gender, ethnicity, responsibilities, pay relationship to size of legal staff, are presented in numerous tables throughout the text. Tables also detail employee benefits such as insurance and health care. Also listed are special characteristics, such as size, experience, and billing rates, of firms used by universities for outside counsel, and the characteristics of the participating institutions. The survey questionnaire is appended. (JM)
